The Carpettes were originally formed in the north east of England in April 1977, by vocalist/guitarist Neil Thompson, vocalist/ bassist George Maddison and drummer Kevin Heard, all three having attended the same school. After just two local gigs they replied to an ad in 'Sounds' placed by Small Wonder Records and sent in a five track demo which earnt them a deal with the Walthamstow based label / record shop. In December of the same year their debut single, the four track "How About You And Me" EP, was released to favourable reviews in both the national music press and the 'underground' Punk fanzines. Both the title track and the aptly titled "Radio Wunderbar" were regularly played on the John Peel show on BBC Radio 1.

After two albums , half a dozen singles , several reissues , TV appearences in the UK and Italy , and live appearances in the UK , Italy , Germany and Holland the band are still together performing occasionally . Recent years have seen the reissue of virtually the entire back catalogue of Carpettes songs , a new album, appearances at the big Holidays in the Sun punk festivals , a short tour with the UK Subs , Japan tours, gigs in the north east and London and a visit to Dusseldorf
