Not every band made it to the making a single stage and lets face it there's some that probably shouldn't have! Despite that they all have a story to tell and here's the Ordinary's one courtesy of long time contributor to the site Steve Phypers. It all comes good because a couple of tracks are due to be released on Bored Teenagers 4 courtesy of Detour Records.
The band I played drums for were called 'The Ordinarys' 1976-'79. The band name came from a New Hearts song called 'Here Come The Ordinaries'. Steve our singer knew Ian Page (later Secret Affair) and we'd go to see NHt's whenever we could. Much later, NHt's bass player, John Harty, joined The Ordinarys just before we burnt out! We all came from Hoddesdon in Hertfordshire accept for the singer who came from Waltham Cross, Herts Don't laugh, no... actually, do laugh!, The Ordinarys appeared on ATV Televisions 'New Faces' Feb '78, yeah I know, cringe, big mistake I always thought, anyway...We played an original song called 'I Wanna Be An Ordinary', Micky Most loved it!!!
Massive local following, hundreds turned up to our gigs, great crack really. Including The Lyceum, London (sold out) 8th March '78 . The big numbers in the set, later recorded at Morgan Studios in Willesden, were 'I Wanna Be An Ordinary', 'I Never Knew' and 'Get Me Up'.
